Laminated Glass: the Feature of the Future

Consumer expectations of new vehicles have never been higher. In this competitive market, a single desirable feature can sway a purchasing decision – and demand for laminated automotive glass is growing. In a recent survey by JD Power and Associates, laminated door glass ranked second only to flat-run tires in a list of emerging technologies receiving strong consumer interest.

Safe & Sound laminated glass from PPG can help impact your business results by providing many attractive consumer benefits: a quieter interior, enhanced intrusion protection, protection from ultraviolet radiation and original equipment quality.

More than 60 current car, truck and SUV models already offer laminated glass windows and sunroofs as an option or standard feature. Shouldn’t your vehicle be among them?

Engineered for Comfort and Security

Safe & Sound Automotive Glass consists of two pieces of glass laminated together with a moisture-insensitive vinyl interlayer. Because it is designed for applications in which tempered glass is normally used, the glass plies are strengthened for added durability. The windows meet all federal regulatory requirements while providing the performance and function that manufacturers and consumers require.

Consumer Benefits

Quieter Interior Environment

With Safe & Sound Automotive Glass, wind and road noise stay outside where they belong. Laboratory tests have shown that laminated glass can reduce sound transmittance levels by up to 8 dB at certain frequencies compared to tempered glass. When outside disturbances are reduced, premium sound systems, wireless communication equipment and other high-tech tools can be fully utilized and appreciated.

Enhanced Intrusion Protection

Safe & Sound Automotive Glass helps protect vehicles from vandals, thieves and carjackers. It can take up to 10 times longer to penetrate laminated glass windows, creating delay to discourage most invasion attempts.

Protection from UV Radiation

The Safe & Sound laminated construction creates an SPF of more than 50, blocking more than 95 percent of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. This provides important protection for occupants as well as the vehicle interior itself. Reducing the fading, cracking and other deterioration caused by UV rays can enhance the vehicle’s resale value.

Original Equipment Quality

Unlike some aftermarket-applied films used for UV or intrusion protection, Safe & Sound Automotive Glass will not develop bubbles or scratches as it ages. The inherent qualities of glass provide lasting aesthetics, optics and durability.
